RAP provides a variety of support services to retail workers and people seeking work in retail. Although our services are free, we encourage everyone to get involved with RAP's organizing and outreach efforts to help address the systematic injustices in the retail industry and the communities in which we live.
Many of the workplace, housing
and legal issues that workers face are broader problems with
the industry and their communities. RAP's membership and community
coalition organizes to address systematic injustices faced
by retail workers.

Workplace Support and Organizing
RAP consults with workers about problems they face in their stores and help them devise strategies to address those problems. RAP members have successfully addressed workplace problems through collective action inside the store, organizing, media outreach, legal action, community organizing and outreach to shoppers.
Employment Services and Training
RAP provides employment services to retail
workers and people seeking work in retail. We help people
with their resumes, cover letters, interview skills and finding
a job in retail. We also provide training in job readiness
and retail sales and visual skills.
Worker
Rights Education
Educating workers about their rights and organizing
is extremely important in empowering workers to deal with
problems on the job. RAP staff and members educate retail
workers about their rights and taking action wherever they
are--on the street, in the stores, in our offices, over the
internet and in workshops. RAP especially focuses on helping
retail workers educate other retail workers about their rights.
RAP has held informational workshops such
as "Legal Rights on the Job," "Filing and Keeping
Unemployment Insurance," "Rights of Immigrant Workers,"
and organizing skills workshops such as "Motivate
Your Co-Workers to Take Action" and "Solving
Workplace Issues through Collective Action."
Legal Services
RAP works with non-profit
legal services to assist retail workers exercise their legal
rights on the job. RAP members have received assistance with
wage and hour violations, discrimination and health and safety
violations.
Immigrant Worker Services
RAP advocates for the
rights of immigrant workers and connects them with needed
services such as legal assistance, legal rights education,
English classes and job training.
Housing Rights Information and Advocacy
RAP's parent organization, the Good Old Lower
East Side (GOLES), specializes in tenant rights, organizing
and advocacy for low-income and public housing residents.
RAP members receive counseling and support in dealing with
housing issues.
